Softball Splits Nonconference Twin Bill Against Farmingdale State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Farmingdale, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team split a nonconference doubleheader against the Rams of Farmingdale State College on Saturday afternoon, as the Bulldogs dropped the opener 4-0 and later came back to earn the split with a 12-8 win in game two.

BC moves to 11-4 overall on the season; while Farmingdale goes to 8-10 overall on the year.

The Rams' Taylor Tedeschi (5-4) silenced the Brooklyn bats in game one, tossing a complete game shutout, allowing just five hits, while striking out six over seven innings of work.

Tedeschi would get all the run support she would need in the bottom of the first, which saw the home team score a pair of runs on an RBI single from Michelle Mongiello and an RBI double from Jennifer Jarczynski. Kristen Flint's RBI double in the third and Marissa Brightman's RBI single in the sixth capped the scoring for Farmingdale State.

Jarcynski went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Meagan Anderson went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Flint and Sam Johrden each had two hits apiece.

For BC, Kim Konklewski, Stephanie Caravello, Samantha Rodriguez, Meagan Cranston and Norah Marley all had a base hit. Kayla Hill (5-3) took the loss the Bulldogs, allowing four runs on 12 hits over six innings.

After being shutout in the opener, Brooklyn's offense exploded for eight runs in the top of the first to begin game two.  Allison Donovan's two-run double highlighted the eight-run rally.

Cranston's RBI single in the fourth would give the Bulldogs a 9-0 advantage.

The Rams would finally get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth scoring a run on an RBI groundout from Meghan Acton and would add two more runs in the fifth on an RBI triple from Mongiello and an RBI single from Flint.

Brooklyn would add to its lead with three more runs in the sixth to go ahead 12-3 on a two-run single from Cranston. Cranston would later come around to score by stealing home.

Farmingdale would not go down quietly, as they added three runs of their own in the sixth, on Anderson's RBI triple, Jarczynski's RBI double and Flint's RBI single. The Rams would continue their comeback attempt by plating two more runs in the seventh on Anderson's two-run single to make it 12-8 in favor of the visiting Bulldogs; however, that's as close as the Rams would get, as Amanda Bisz closed out the game to earn her first save of the season.

Bisz came in to pitch in the seven in relief of starter Marie Oneto. Biz, who came into the game with runners on first and second and no one out, struck out the first batter she faced. After walking the next batter, which loaded the bases, Bisz would strike out the next two batters she faced to end the game and give the Bulldogs the 12-8 victory.

Cranston finished game two going 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Caravello went a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Hill, Bisz and Geena Bell all had two hits each.

Oneto (2-0) earned the win allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 16 hits and walking three over six innings. Her counterpart, Taylor Webb (3-6) took the loss, allowing 12 runs (11 earned) on 16 hits, while walking four and striking out four over seven innings.

Brooklyn returns to the diamond this Wednesday, April 3rd, as the Bulldogs will play host to borough rival NYU-Poly in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Brooklyn College Field.
