Box Score 2 Bellerose, NY --- At Padavan-Preller Fields in Bellerose on Monday afternoon, the Brooklyn College Softball team completed its City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) regular season schedule with a doubleheader sweep against the Cardinals of York College. The Bulldogs took game one 8-1 and completed the sweep with a 9-1 (five innings) win in game two.
BC completes the regular season with an 8-4 record in the CUNYAC and a 21-12 overall record, as the Bulldogs will be the #3 seed in the conference championships, which begins with the First Round on Wednesday, May 1st at the higher seed.
York drops to 5-20 overall and 0-10 in conference play.
Sophomore
Kayla Hill, the reigning CUNYAC/Applebee's Pitcher of the Week, helped lead Brooklyn to the game one victory with her arm and her bat. In the circle, Hill tossed seven solid innings, allowing just one unearned run on five hits, while striking out seven batters to improve to 10-5 on the year. She also went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored to help her own cause.
Junior
Amanda Bisz also drove in a pair of runs going 1-for-3, while sophomore
Samantha Rodriguez, the reigning CUNYAC/Applebee's Player of the Week, continued her strong play going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Senior
Kim Konklewski also scored twice in the opener.
Priscilla Lallave (2-7) took the loss for York, allowing all eight runs (four earned) on seven hits, while walking one and striking out two in three innings of work. Karen Werner went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cardinals, while Geneva Faulk scored the lone run of the game for the home team.
In the nightcap, the Bulldogs scored early and often, plating four runs in the top of the first and four more runs in the top of the third, en route to a 9-1 win, which ended after the fifth inning via the run rule.
Senior
Norah Marley, juniors
Allison Donovan and
Meagan Cranston and sophomore
Becky Ganley all had a pair of hits to power the Brooklyn offense. Marley, Cranston and Ganley all drove home two runs, while Donovan scored three times.
Samantha Rodriguez scored twice as well for BC.
The Bulldogs'
Marie Oneto (5-6) picked up the win allowing just one run on three hits, while walking one and striking out three over five innings of work. Her counterpart, Lallave (2-8), took the loss again, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits, while walking five and striking out one, over three innings.
Werner again had two hits for the Cardinals, while Danielle Dunn drove in Joviette Frederick for York's lone run of the game.
Brooklyn returns to the diamond tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23rd, as the Bulldogs will play host to Briarcliffe College for BC's 2013 regular season finale. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Brooklyn College Field.
