Softball Eliminated From CUNYAC Championships; Await Possible ECAC Bid

Box Score Staten Island, NY --- Coming in game five of the 2013 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Applebee's Softball Championships, the #3 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs fell to the #4 seeded Hunter College Hawks, 3-0, on day two of the championships held at the College of Staten Island Softball Complex.

The loss knocks Brooklyn (23-16) out of the conference championships.

With its win, Hunter (15-27) advances to play #2 and host CSI in game six of the championships at 2:00 pm. If Dolphins win they will be crowned the CUNYAC Champions and earn the conference's automatic bid into the 2013 NCAA Division III Softball Championships, while the Hawks will need to defeat Staten Island, who is currently undefeated in the championships, twice in order to claim the championship and the NCAA berth.

BC's season is not over yet, as the Bulldogs will now await a possible selection into the 2013 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Softball Championships. The eight-team field will be announced this Monday, May 6th.

The Hawks' Erika Colangelo silenced the Brooklyn bats all game long, allowing just two hits, while walking one and striking out three batters over seven innings, to earn the complete game shutout victory. Her counterpart, Brooklyn sophomore Kayla Hill took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on 10 hits, while striking out two in seven innings of work.

Freshman Samantha Rodriguez and junior Amanda Bisz each had a hit for BC.

For Hunter, Sophia Ponce and Briana Lombardo each had a pair of hits. Lombardo and Julia Lipovac each drove in a run, while Ponce, Molly Meehan and Holly Isenberg all scored a run.
