Softball Season Ends In ECAC Championships

Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team had its 2013 season come to an end in the First Round of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Softball Championships on Wednesday afternoon at Brooklyn College Field, as the #7 seeded Bulldogs lost to the #2 seeded Soaring Eagles of Elmira College, 2-0.

Brooklyn concludes its season with a 23-17 overall record, setting a new program record for wins in a single season. Elmira moves to 25-13 on the year and advances to the double elimination round of the championships, which begin on Saturday, May 11th at the highest remaining seed.

Despite being the lower seed, BC hosted Elmira in the opening round and served as the visiting team on its home field.

The game featured a pitcher's duel throughout between Brooklyn's Marie Oneto and Elmira's Alexandra Puglisi.

Puglisi would help her own cause in the bottom of the first, as her RBI single to right field brought in Mikayla Bean to put the Soaring Eagles on top 1-0.

The game would remain 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth, when Puglisi struck again, this time with an RBI single up the middle that scored Alex Andrade, to put Elmira ahead, 2-0.

In the end, that's all Puglisi would need, as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just four hits, while walking two and striking out six over seven innings. At the plate, she finished a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI's.

Oneto took the tough luck loss, allowing two runs on nine hits, while walking one and striking out one in six innings of work.

Stephanie Caravello went 2-for-3 in the game for the Bulldogs.

With 15 of 17 players from this season expected to return for 2014, the Brooklyn College Softball team should once again have another successful campaign next year.
