Box Score Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team (9-19) fell to the Mariners of the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) (17-6) on Wednesday evening at the West Quad Center in a thrilling five-set match.
The Mariners edged out the win in the first set, 26-24; however, the Bulldogs would seize control of the match by earning wins the second and third sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-21, respectively. USMMA would even the match at 2-2 by taking the fourth sets, 25-17, to force the decisive fifth and final set. In the end, the visitors would take the 15-11 win to earn the hard-fought victory.
In total, the match saw 26 ties and 15 lead changes throughout the five sets.
Christolia Butler led Brooklyn with 11 kills on an impressive .417 hitting percentage.
Yelizaveta Malysheva added nine kills, while
Francesca LoCascio chipped in with eight kills.
Jessica Yin recorded a double-double with 31 assists and 11 digs, while
Monineath Pen finished with 18 digs.
Sasha Roopchand also contributed on the defensive end with 17 digs, to go with six kills.
Jordy Macbeth led USMMA with 12 kills, while Kayla Gleason finished the night with nine kills. Gleason also added 19 assists and seven digs. Riley Huelbig also helped to pace the offense with 14 assists, to go with 14 digs for the double-double. Cassandra Palma chipped in with 10 digs and seven kills, while Dominique Pope recorded an impressive 36 digs.
Brooklyn will return to action on Saturday, October 25th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Annandale-on-Hudson, NY to take on Bard College. The non-conference match is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
