Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Bulldogs will begin the 2014 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Women's Volleyball Championships tonight, as #5 Brooklyn will travel to Nat Holman Gymnasium to take on the #4 seeded Beavers of The City College of New York (CCNY) in a quarterfinals round meeting.
The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start time. If you can't make it to the match,
live stats will be available.
The winner will advance to the semifinals on Friday, November 7th at Baruch College. The championship final will be held the same night.
CCNY and Brooklyn finished the regular season with identical 4-4 records in conference play. The Beavers defeated the Bulldogs in a five-set thriller, 3-2 (11-25, 25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 17-15), on a neutral court in their conference meeting back on October 13th at the College of Staten Island.
BC did beat CCNY in a non-conference match earlier in the season on August 30th in straight sets, 3-0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-18), also on neutral court at United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA).
Looking to lead the Bulldogs to a quarterfinals upset will be sophomore
Francesca LoCascio, who leads the team in kills averaging 1.93 kills-per-set. Junior
Yelizaveta Malysheva (1.74 K/set) and sophomore
Christolia Butler (1.40 K/set) will also play key roles. Butler has also been strong at the net totaling 53 total blocks on the season.
Jessica Yin paces the offense with 5.76 assists-per-set, to go with 69 service aces, while freshman
Monineath Pen (2.31 digs-per-set) and senior
Fanny Ng (2.26 digs-per-set) have been solid defensively for Brooklyn.
The Beavers are led by Leticia Marotti's team-high 3.58 K/set and 2.76 d/set, while Saye-Chantl Joseph is avering 2.34 K/set. Joseph also leads CCNY in total blocks with 59, to go with 2.37 d/set. Kathlen Dos Santos is averaing 5.94 a/set and has totaled a team leading 62 aces, while Veralucia Quispe is contributing on defense with 2.25 d/set.
