Softball Drops Doubleheader Against Farmingdale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team dropped a pair of games in a non-conference doubleheader against the visiting Rams of Farmingdale State College, losing the opener 7-4, before falling 6-5 in the nightcap.

With reigning CUNYAC Player of the Year Kayla Hill on the mound for game one, Brooklyn looked confident against tough non-conference opponent Farmingdale State, however the Rams' Michelle Mongiello, the game's second batter, crushed a Hill pitch over the right-center field fence for a solo shot to give FSC the early 1-0 lead.

Brooklyn came back in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from senior Meagan Cranston to tie the game at one.

Mongiello, who went four for four on the game, and was a triple shy of the cycle, started a third inning rally with an opposite field double, and came in to score the go-ahead run, followed by a second run on the inning to give the Rams a 3-1 lead.

The visitors would not trail again, however Brooklyn did stage a seventh inning rally, as down four, they loaded the bases and scored a run on a Kristina Bermudez walk to cut the deficit to 7-4. With two down and the bases still full, Cranston hit the ball on the nose but right to the left fielder for the game's final out.

In game two, junior hurler Kimberly Brennan gave up three runs in the top of the first, but then settled down to throw five consecutive shutout innings. In the bottom of the first, her team supported her with a five-run explosion that was sparked by a two-run single from senior Amanda Bisz, followed by an RBI single from classmate Stephanie Caravello.

Brennan, who looked great after her first inning struggles, began to struggle in the seventh, as Farmingdale freshman Lori Michalowski led off the inning with a pinch-hit blast over the left-center fence to cut the BC lead to 5-4. The next batter, Meagan Anderson, doubled and that was the end of Brennan's day. Marie Oneto came in to try and close out the game after not having pitched at all on the day.

Mongiello was next up to the plate and singled to score Anderson and tie the game. She advanced on a throwing error by Oneto, and then scored for the go-ahead run on an Andrea Klarman single. Oneto was able to get out of the inning with no futher damage, however Brooklyn went down in order in the bottom half of the inning, dropping the twin bill.

The Bulldogs will look to get back into the win column this Sunday when they host the Albertus Magnus College Falcons at 12 pm in another non-league doubleheader.
