Softball Drops Twin Bill Against Albertus Magnus

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games on Sunday afternoon at Brooklyn College Field against the Falcons of Albertus Magnus College. The visiting Falcons took the opener, 9-3; before shutting out Brooklyn 6-0 in the nightcap.

The Bulldogs are now 2-4 on the young season, while Albertus Magnus improves to 6-4 overall on the year.

The Falcons silenced the Brooklyn bats all afternoon long. Brianna Longley (2-2) won game one, tossing seven strong innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits, while walking two and striking out six. Shyleen Ortiz (4-2) completed the doubleheader sweep for Albertus Magnus, as she threw a complete game shutout in game two, allowing just three hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Powering the Falcons offense in the opener was Carli Matrisian, who went 3-for-4 in the game with two RBI.  Brittney Urciuoli also drove in two runs, going 1-for-2, while also scoring twice. Amanda Jessey and Alyssa Puccilli also had multi-hit games for Albertus Magnus.

Samantha Rodriguez went 2-for-3 in the opener with an RBI and a run scored.

In game two, Jessey had another solid outing for the Falcons, as the leadoff hitter went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Rachel Cataudella drove in a pair of runs going 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Matrisian also drove in a run. Urciuoli scored twice in the game.

Juniors Kayla Hill and Maria Mantagas and sophomore Arislenia Rodriguez all had a hit in the second game.

Junior Kimberly Brennan started game one for BC, allowing three runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two over four innings. Senior Amanda Bisz pitched the final three innings, allowing six runs (three earned) on five hits, while walking two and striking out two.

In game two, Hill pitched four innings allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits, while striking out one. Senior Marie Oneto pitched the final three innings and allowed just one hit.

Brooklyn will be back in action on Tuesday, March 25th as the Bulldogs will travel to Newark, NJ to take on Rutgers-Newark in non-conference action. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 pm.
