Brooklyn Sweeps St. Elizabeth 3-2, 10-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Softball Team earned their fourth and fifth wins of the season on Thursday evening, defeating the visiting College of St. Elizabeth Screaming Eagles by scores of 3-2 and 10-2 (6 innings) in a doubleheader sweep at BC Field.

With the wins, BC evens its overall record to 5-5 on the year, while St. Elizabeth drops to 2-4 overall on the young season.

Junior Kayla Hill (1-2) picked up the win in the opener, tossing seven solid innings, allowing just two runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out six batters. Her counterpart, Christina Scolaro (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits, while walking one over 6 and 2/3 innings.

BC got on the board early, as the Bulldogs notched two runs in the bottom of the first. Senior Amanda Bisz knocked home sophomore Samantha Rodriguez with an RBI double, while Bisz would later come around to score on an RBI single from junior Maria Mantagas.

The game would remain 2-0 in favor of the home team until the top of the sixth, when the Screaming Eagles used a two-run inning of their own to tie up the ballgame. Nicole Morera's RBI groundout that scored Valerie Lasko got the visitors on the board. Lasko would later score the tying run on a RBI single from Alesandria DeSapio.

Brooklyn would use its final at-bat to score the game winning run, as junior Geena Bell came around to score the winning run on an RBI single from Mantagas, her second of the game.

The nightcap saw the BC offense explode for eight runs on four hits, as the Bulldogs took full advantage of two key St. Elizabeth errors.

The game would remain 8-0 in favor of Brooklyn, until the Screaming Eagles scored a pair of runs in the fifth. Morera's single scored Lasko, while Scolaro would come around to score on a throwing error.

Senior Allison Donovan would end the game in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run double that scored classmate Stephanie Caravello and sophomore Ashley Mendez, ending the game via the run rule, 10-2.

Donovan finished the game going 1-for-4 with a two RBI, while Hill went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI. Samantha Rodriguez, Bisz and junior Kristina Bermudez all drove in a run as well.

Junior Kimberly Brennan (1-1) picked up her first win of the season, going six strong innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits, while walking three and striking out three. Her counterpart, Danesha Triplett (1-2) took the loss, allowing 10 runs (three earned) on eight hits, while walking seven and striking out four.

Brooklyn will be back in action this Saturday, March 29th, as the Bulldogs will host the Bearcats of Baruch College in their City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) opener. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm.
