Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team swept the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at BC Field. The Bulldogs won the opener, 8-0 (six innings), before edging out a 4-2 win in the nightcap to complete the sweep.
With the victories, BC moves to 15-9 overall on the season and 4-2 in the CUNYAC, while John Jay falls to 5-12 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Junior
Kayla Hill (6-3) tossed a gem in game one, as she allowed just three hits and a walk, while striking out seven over six innings of work in a complete game shutout. Her counterpart, Sara McKenna (4-8) took the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on 10 hits, while striking out two in 5 and 2/3 innings.
The Bulldogs got on the board early scoring a pair of runs in the first, as senior
Amanda Bisz's RBI double scored Hill. Bisz would later come around to score on an RBI single from sophomore
Arislenia Rodriguez.
Brooklyn would maintain its 2-0 lead until the third, when senior
Meagan Cranston's heads up base running allowed her to score from second on an infield groundout.
BC would end the game in the bottom of the sixth, as the home team plated five runs on six hits to end the game via the run rule en route to its 8-0 shutout win.
Bisz finished the game going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while junior
Maria Mantagas went 2-for-3.
In game two, the Bloodhounds would strike first, as Kalyssa Daley's two-run single scored both Lana Kovac and Jamie Lam in the top of the second.
The Bulldogs would cut their deficit in half, as Hill's RBI single scored senior
Allison Donovan to make it 2-1.
The game would remain 2-1 in favor of John Jay until the fourth inning, when Brooklyn scored three runs to go up 4-2. Hill's second RBI single of the game scored junior
Kristina Bermudez to tie the game, while sophomore
Samantha Rodriguez's two-run single later in the inning scored both
Geena Bell and
Becky Ganley to give Brooklyn its first lead.
Bermudez went 3-for-3 in the game, while Hill and Donovan each had a pair of hits.
Hill (7-3) picked up her second win of the day, as she came in relief, allowing just three hits over 5 and 1/3 innings of work, to go along with a strikeout. Junior
Kimberly Brennan started the game, allowing two unearned runs on two hits, while walking one and striking out two over 1 and 2/3 innings.
Kovac (1-4) took the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on 11 hits, while walking one over six innings.
Brooklyn returns to action this Saturday, April 12th, as the Bulldogs will host the Cardinals of York College in a CUNYAC twin bill. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm at BC Field.
