Softball Drops Doubleheader To CSI; Gives Up Late Lead In Game 2 Heartbreaker

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College Bulldogs dropped a pair of games to defending CUNYAC Champion Staten Island at BC Field on Wednesday, 7-1, 5-4. While the Dolphins get out of Brooklyn with the sweep, the story of the night was in game two where the Bulldogs had a one-run lead going into the seventh inning, and after allowing CSI to tie, gave up the lead on a controversial call at third base and eventually lost after not coming up with an equalizer in the bottom half of the inning.
With the wins, CSI improves to 7-4, 4-0 CUNYAC on the year, while Brooklyn falls to 7-7 and 2-2 in league play.

After going up 1-0 in the first inning of game two, Brooklyn held onto the lead up until the top of the fifth when the Dolphins rallied to score three runs, with the big hit, a two-run double, coming off the bat of freshman catcher Alyssa Setteducato.

The Bulldogs showed some fight, coming right back in the bottom of the fifth with a rally of their own, scoring three runs to regain the advantage, 4-3. Junior Kayla Hill tied the game with a two-run double and sophomore Samantha Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to give her squad the lead.

In the Dolphins half of the sixth, after pitcher Amanda Bisz allowed a runner, she was replaced with game one starter Marie Oneto, who worked her way out of trouble, maintaining the lead for the home Bulldogs.

Brooklyn could not add to their advantage in the sixth, and Staten Island came up with the top of their lineup in the seventh.  After allowing a lead-off single, Oneto retired the next two batters, however the tying run was at third with two out. Victoria Procopio got on with a walk to put runners at the corner.  Christina Tufano, the next batter, hit a hard one-hopper to Bisz, who was now playing third, but the sure-handed senior could not make the stab and the game was now tied. Danielle Locke, the next batter, reached on an infield hit to load the bases, and then Maxine Jasko hit a grounder in the hole between the shortstop and third basemen, where it was fielded by shortstop Allison Donovan cleanly. Donovan flipped the ball to Bisz who appeared to be on the base for the force, but also placed a tag down on the runner, however the umpire called the runner safe, allowing Procopio to score the go-ahead run.

BC's Meagan Cranston would get as close as third base in the bottom half of the inning, but the Bulldogs could not get her across the plate, falling in defeat in heartbreaking fashion.

Hill led the way for the Bulldogs with two RBI and two runs scored for the game.

Game one saw CSI's Tufano go three for four with three runs batted in to give her team a six-run victory. Bisz had a team-high two hits in the game for Brooklyn.

Brooklyn will be back in action tomorrow as they head out on the road to take on Ramapo, with the first game starting at 3 pm.
