Softball Eliminated on Day Two of CUNYAC Championships

Box Score Queens, NY --- After posting a 1-1 record on day one of the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) Softball Championships, the #2 seeded Brooklyn College Bulldogs dropped a 9-2 decision against the #3 seeded Hunter College Hawks on the second and final day of the championships on Saturday morning at Queens College.

The victory advances the Hawks to game six of the double elimination round against the undefeated and top seeded Dolphins of the College of Staten Island.

Brooklyn fell to Hunter in its first game of the championships on Friday, before eliminating #4 John Jay College of Criminal Justice to advance to Saturday's games.

With both teams facing elimination, Hunter jumped out to a 4-1 lead through the first three innings. The Hawks got on the board in the top of the first on an RBI double from Victoria Slavik that scored Briana Kresback. Hunter would add two more runs in the second as the Hawks took advantage of a costly Brooklyn error that allowed them to score two unearned runs to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Bulldogs' deficit would go to 4-0 as Sara Beck singled home Julia Lipovac in the third.

Brooklyn would finally get on the board in its half of the third on an RBI single from junior Kayla Hill that plated classmate Kristina Bermudez to make it 4-1 in favor of Hunter.

The Hawks would continue to add to their lead with another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to break the game open and take an 8-1 lead en route to their 9-2 victory to advance to game six.

Hunter took full advantage of six Brooklyn errors that eventually lead to six unearned runs for the Hawks offense.  Meghan O'Shea, Slavik and Beck each drove home a pair of runs, while Kresback scored twice. Briana Lombardo went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Kresback and Slavik also had a multi-hit game.

Hill went 2-for-4 with two RBI for Brooklyn, while senior Amanda Bisz also had two hits on the day.

Beck (8-7) earned the win for Hunter in the circle, allowing just two runs on eight hits, while striking out five over seven innings.

Hill (11-5) took the loss allowing nine runs (three earned) on 13 hits, while walking two and striking out one over seven innings.

Brooklyn, with its 25-14 overall record, will now await a possible selection into the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Metro Softball Championships. Bids will be announced on Monday.
