Box Score Old Westbury, NY --- The Brooklyn College Women's Volleyball team defeated the Panthers of the SUNY College at Old Westbury in straight sets on Monday night, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-8).
With the win, BC improves to 5-8 overall on the season, while Old Westbury remains winless at 0-7 overall on the year.
The first set saw both teams battle back and forth, as the two squads combined for 10 ties and three lead changes. With the set tied at 17 all, the Bulldogs finally put the Panthers away going on a 6-0 run behind the strong serving of senior
Fanny Ng to go ahead, 23-17, en route it their 25-21 win.
The second set would see Brooklyn jump out to an early 10-5 lead, as the Bulldogs would go on to take the set with relative ease, 25-18, and take a commanding 2-0 lead.
Looking to put the match away and complete the sweep, the BC cruised to a 25-8 win in the third and final set by using a 10-0 run to start the set. The Panthers would be unable to recover as the visitors would go on to take the match in three sets.
Brooklyn was led by freshman
Jessica Yin, who paced the offense with 17 assists and nine service aces, both match-highs. She also added four kills to her stat line. Sophomore
Vera Zhuk led the team with six kills, to go with four aces, while senior
Daniza Pina added five kills. As a team, Brooklyn recorded an impressive 17 aces in the match.
Old Westbury's Ruth Vargas finished the match with six kills to lead the Panthers, while Rayn Brown added four kills and nine digs. Elizabeth Ozuna contributed with 10 assists and seven digs.
Brooklyn returns to action this Thursday, September 25th, as the Bulldogs will host the Lightning of Lehman College in a key City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) matchup. The match is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start time at the West Quad Center. The match will play a vital role in seeding for the conference championships, as both teams enter with identical 3-1 records in league play.
