New Haven, CT---The No. 17 Brooklyn College men's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season tonight, dropping a 106-89 decision at Albertus Magnus (6-1). Tonight's defeat snaps the Bulldogs' season opening nine game winning-streak. The Bulldogs (9-1, 3-0 CUNYAC) will look to bounce back in CUNYAC action at Lehman on Friday, 12/11. Tip-off is set for 7:15 PM following the women's game at 5:00 PM, as the second part of a conference doubleheader. It will be the Bulldogs' last game of the semester.
Trailing by as many as 19 points with 17:36 remaining in the game, the Bulldogs would begin to chip away at the Falcons' lead. They would cut the home team's lead to as few as four points beginning at the 10:30 mark but would not be able to get any closer. With 2:35 remaining in regulation, BC only found themselves trailing 92-88. However, Albertus Magnus would avoid losing their second home game in a row after winning 59 straight, finishing the contest with a 14-1 run.
The two teams played evenly through the first thirteen minutes of the opening period. With the Bulldogs leading 30-29 with 7:07 remaining in the first half, the Falcons would take the lead for good on a 10-0 run that BC would not answer until the 4:29 mark. Albertus Magnus took a 53-40 halftime lead and opened the second half with a 6-0 run.
Albertus Magnus held the Bulldogs to their lowest shooting percentage of the season at 41.7%. The Falcons shot 57.6% from the field including 45.0% from beyond the arc.
All five Brooklyn starters did reach double-figures in scoring. The Bulldogs were led by senior guard
Jamel Gist's 32 points including 6-10 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed six rebounds and doled out six assists with only one turnover. Senior forward
Lorenzo Williams added 15 points to go along with nine rebounds. Senior guard
Egzon Gjonbalaj scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
