Bronx, NY---In a Friday night thriller, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team dropped their second game in a row tonight at Lehman College in CUNYAC play, 80-77. The Bulldogs are now 9-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in the CUNYAC. Lehman improves to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Bulldogs will be back on the court after the Holidays on January 3rd to host the College of Staten Island in a CUNYAC doubleheader with the women's team. The women's game will tip-off at 12:30 PM followed by the men at 2:45 PM.
Digging themselves out of a 23-point hole in the second half, the Bulldogs would tie the game on two made
Lorenzo Williams free throws with 21 seconds left in regulation. However, Lehman's Orlando Minott would drive from the Lightning's sideline for a lay-in that gave Lehman the 79-77 lead with seven seconds left in the game. BC would turn the ball over on the ensuing in-bound and were forced to foul immediately. After Lehman missed their second free-throw with :05 left in the game, the Bulldogs still had a chance to tie the contest with a three-point make. However, the Bulldogs turned the ball over while trying to advance the ball up the court for that shot.
Down 59-36 with just over twelve minutes to play, the Bulldogs used a 19-5 run to pull within nine points of the Lightning with 7:20 remaining in the game. A
Jamel Gist lay-in turned the contest into a two-possession game with 5:40 left in regulation.
Senior guard
Dillon Williams knocked down the three-pointer with :54 left in the game that helped the Bulldogs pull within the two points prior to
Lorenzo Williams' game-tying free-throws.
The CUNYAC's second-leading scorer,
Egzon Gjonbalaj, would foul out of the game with 1:10 left in regulation, just two seconds after knocking down a three that pulled the Bulldogs within three points.
BC out-rebounded Lehman 58-35 with 24 offensive rebounds to the Lightning's four. Lehman shot 40% (6-15) from beyond the arc to BC's 19% (4-21).
Lorenzo Williams and
Egzon Gjonbalaj each scored 22 points and recorded double-doubles with 12 and 11 rebounds respectively. Egzon's brother, Edon, also finished with a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds).
Jamel Gist added ten points and six rebounds.
Orlando Minott led Lehman with 21 points and nine rebounds.
