Men’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman in Four Sets

Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Men's Volleyball team dropped a City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) match against the visiting Lightning of Lehman College, 3-1, on Thursday evening at the West Quad Center.

After the Lightning took the first set, 25-14, the Bulldogs bounced back to edge out a 26-24 win in the second set to tie the match at 1-1. The second stanza saw the teams combine for 13 ties and four lead changes. The third set featured much of the same as the second, with both teams combining for 10 ties and five lead changes; however, this time it would be the visitors who would squeak out the win, taking the third set by a score of, 30-28, to go ahead 2-1. The Lightning would close out the match with a 25-10 win in the fourth and final set to take home the 3-1 win.

For the Bulldogs, Rudy Zhao posted a double-double with 13 kills and 14 digs, to go along with four service aces. Kevin Bautista also registered a double-double, dishing out 21 assists and adding 12 digs. Ian Miranda (five kills and 12 digs) and Shawn Varghese (six kills and 10 digs) also made strong contributions in the match.

For Lehman, the Lightning were powered by Jaleel Lino's match-high 25 kills, to go along with 15 digs, also a match-best. Carlos Segura added 11 kills and nine digs, while Miguel Gallardo paced the offense with 44 assists, to go with eight digs. Roberto Perez finished the night with 13 digs, while Ahmad Abugharbieh chipped in with 11 digs. The visitors were strong at the net, racking up 10 team blocks. Abugharbieh led the way with three solo blocks and three block assists.

Brooklyn will be back in action next Saturday, February 28th, as the Bulldogs will travel to Langhorne, PA to take on host Cairn University (3:00 pm) and New Paltz (1:00 pm) in a tri-match.
