Softball Drops Two Against NYU

Bronx, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team (1-5) dropped a pair of games against the Violets of New York University (2-14) on Sunday afternoon at Bahoshy Softball Complex on the campus of Fordham University.

NYU took the opening game 10-1 (six innings), before completing the doubleheader sweep with a 5-2 win in game two.

In the opener, the Bulldogs would strike fist, scoring a run in the top of the first to go ahead 1-0. Taking advantage of an NYU fielding error, Ashley Tkacsik would bring home Liza Nunez to put the visitors ahead.

The lead would not last long; however, as the Violets would answer with a run of their own, as Colby Tarsitano would take advantage of a BC wild pitch to tie the game.

Tarsitano would score again in the bottom of the third and fifth innings to give the home team a 3-1 lead after five. Tarsitano scored on an RBI single from Sage Scheiwiller in the third and Kahala Bonsignore's RBI single in the fifth.

NYU would eventually end the game in the sixth inning via the run rule, as the Violets offensive exploded for seven runs on six hits and an error. Natalie Evans' bases clearing triple would cap the seven run inning and end the game.

For the Violets, Bonsignore went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, while Tarsitano went 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored. Scheiwiller went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while Evans went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.

Scheiwiller (1-7) picked up the win for NYU, allowing an unearned run on two hits, while walking six and striking out one over six innings.

For Brooklyn, Nunez and Becky Ganley each had a hit in the game. Kimberly Brennan (1-1) took the loss, allowing 10 runs (four earned) on 11 hits, while walking one and striking out four over 5 2/3 innings.

In game two, Brooklyn would again get on the board first, plating a pair of runs in the top of first. Samantha Rodriguez got the Bulldogs on the board with her RBI double to right center that scored Chrissy Heyer. Rodriguez would come around to score on and RBI single from Tkacsik.

Similar to game one, the lead would not last long, as the Violets answered with a three run inning in their half of the first. Bonsignore singled up the middle to score Rachel Fulton, while Molly Webber's ground-rule double to right center scored both Scheiwiller and Bonsignore.

NYU would add another two runs in the bottom of the third, as Bonsignore struck again with an RBI double to right center to score Scheiwiller. Evans' RBI ground out would later bring home Bonsignore for the fifth and final run of the game.

Bonsignore had another solid day at the plate for the home team, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Webber went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Fulton and Scheiwiller each had two hits in the game as well, as Scheiwiller also scored twice.

For Brooklyn, Heyer went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Rodriguez and Tkacsik each drove in a run, to go with two hits each.

Jacqueline Tremblay (1-3) picked up the win for NYU, allowing two runs on nine hits, while striking out three over seven strong innings. Tkacsik (0-2) took the loss, allowing five runs (two earned) on 10 hits, while walking two and striking out three over six innings.

Brooklyn will look to snap its current four game losing streak on Monday afternoon, as the Bulldogs will open CUNYAC play against the Bearcats of Baruch College. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm at Brooklyn College Field. Baruch will be serving as the home team.
