Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Softball team (16-14) split a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday against the visiting Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury (6-24) at BC Field.
Brooklyn took the opener 2-0; while Old Westbury bounced back in the nightcap to take game two, 8-4.
Kayla Hill (8-5) silenced the Panthers' bats in game one, as she tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and a walk, to go along with seven strikeouts over seven innings. Her counterpart, Nicole DeCola (3-12) was the tough luck loser, as she surrendered two runs on six hits, while striking out six batters over six innings of work.
The Bulldogs got all the offense it needed in the bottom of the third, as Hill helped herself out with an RBI triple over the center fielder's head that allowed
Chrissy Heyer to score the first run of the game. Hill would score on a single to first by
Samantha Rodriguez.
Game two would see a different Old Westbury offense, as the Panthers pounded out 14 hits, en route to scoring eight runs.
Gabriella Valdes set the tone for the visitors, as she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI. Amanda Fucc went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Corrine Protasiewicz helped provide much of the scoring offense going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Elizabeth Redguard was the fourth Old Westbury player with a multi-hit game, as she went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Heyer was solid once again for BC, as she went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Liza Nunez also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Rodriguez and
Ashley Tkacsik also drove in runs for Brooklyn.
Fucci (3-12) picked up the win for OW, as she allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits, while walking two batters and striking out seven over seven innings. Her counterpart, Tkacsik (6-4), took the loss allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 14 hits, while striking out one over seven innings.
