Brooklyn, NY --- The Brooklyn College Bulldogs enter the 2015 City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC)/Pepsi Softball Championships as the #3 seed after posting a 9-3 record in league play. Brooklyn will begin its quest for a conference crown against #6 Baruch College in the First Round of the CUNYAC Championships on Wednesday, April 29th at Brooklyn College Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
The Bulldogs swept the Bearcats during the regular season and will look to make it their fifth straight appearance in the double elimination round of the championships. Brooklyn earned a first round bye last season after finishing as the #2 seed and defeated John Jay (2011) and Lehman (2012 and 2013) in the opening round to reach the double elimination portion of the championships.
Looking to lead the Bulldogs to another deep run in the conference championships will be veterans senior
Kayla Hill and junior
Samantha Rodriguez. Hill, a double threat with her bat and her arm, is batting .430 (46-for-107) on the season with 22 RBI and 28 runs score; to go along with a 9-5 record in the circle with a 3.01 ERA. Rodriguez is batting .480 (49-for-102) on the year with a team-high 39 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Freshman
Chrissy Heyer, a catalyst for Brooklyn's offense all season long, will look to continue her solid play into the postseason, as the rookie lead-off hitter is batting .521 (49-for-94) with 14 RBI and a team-leading 41 runs scored. She has also stolen 27 bases on the year.
Along with the trio of Hill, Rodriguez and Heyer, seniors
Kimberly Brennan,
Kristina Bermudez,
Geena Bell and
Becky Ganley and juniors
Ashley Tkacsik and
Liza Nunez will all look to play major roles in BC's championship aspirations.
The Bulldogs have one final doubleheader to play before Wednesday's First Round matchup, as Brooklyn will travel up to New Paltz, NY to take on the Hawks of SUNY New Paltz in a non-conference twin bill for the team's regular season finale.
