Staten Island, NY---A 17-2 College of Staten Island run to end the third period played a role in the Bulldogs' 65-56 loss to the Dolphins this afternoon. BC drops to 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the CUNYAC; the Dolphins improve to 13-6 and 9-2 in conference play.
With the game played evenly through the first 25 minutes, the Dolphins knocked down three "three-balls" in under a two-minute span to give them the separation they needed to be able to hold off the Bulldogs.
BC did not relent, cutting the CSI lead down to 60-56 with :37 to go in regulation. Junior guard
Justine Vento hit back-to-back three-pointers during the Bulldogs' 15-1 run through the first minute of the final period.
However, the Dolphins hit five of six free-throw attempts down the stretch as the Bulldogs fouled to stop the clock after turning the ball over on their last offensive possession. CSI grabbed an offensive rebound on their only missed free-throw in the final thirty seconds of the contest.
Three CSI starters reached double-figures in scoring. Junior forward
Olivia Colbert was BC's only double-digit scorer, leading the Bulldogs with 14 points on the afternoon. She also had a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard
Karen Mak and junior center Maya Agee-Thomas added eight points a piece. Mak would also finish with seven assists for the game.
The Bulldogs had a tough shooting day from beyond the arc, shooting just over 21% for the game. CSI connected on just over 35% on their chances.
Brooklyn will look to get back on track in conference play on Tuesday as they host York on Alumni Night at the West Quad Center gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 PM followed by the men's game at 7:15 PM.
