Jersey City, New Jersey---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season this afternoon, sweeping Yeshiva University in their first match of a tri-match at New Jersey City University. BC would fall to the host school in their second match of the day. The Bulldogs move to 1-5 overall on the season. Brooklyn will return to the court on Wednesday as they host Albertus Magnus in their home opener. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
BC - 3 | YU - 0(25-13, 25-12, 25-11)
The first game of the match would start evenly with the score tied 6-6. However, the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half of the game scoring seven straight points to take a commanding 17-8 lead. Sophomore captain
Rudy Zhao served up back-to-back service aces during that stretch. Zhao led the Bulldogs with 13 points and finishing with eight kills and three assists.
Trailing 6-1 to start the second game, the Bulldogs scored 17 unanswered points to once again take a commanding 18-6 lead. Sophomore
Ian Miranda stood out in the second game, finishing the match with 10.5 points with three kills and seven service aces.
The third game mirrored the first two with the Bulldogs falling behind early and scoring multiple unanswered points in chunks in the later parts of the game. Freshman
Vaughn Titus picked up a few of his match-high nine kills in the third game. He finished the match with 12.5 points.
BC - 0 | NJCU(17-25, 12-25, 15-25)
The Bulldogs went toe-toe with the 3-0 Knights in the first game, taking a 9-8 lead early in the game. Up 17-15, the Knights scored four unanswered to give them the cushion they needed to close out the game.
In the second game, the Knights scored too many unanswered points in clusters for the Bulldogs to establish a rhythm like they had in the first game.
BC looked as if they were able to build some momentum to force a fourth game, jumping out to an 8-3 lead to start the third game. However, the Knights scored eight unanswered points to take an 11-8 lead and never really looked back.
