Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team remained undefeated in the City University Athletic Conference (7-0) and improved to 10-4 overall with tonight's win against the reigning CUNYAC champion, Baruch. The Bearcats drop to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference with the loss.
"Tonight was a big win for us," said head coach
Alex Lang. "We have been developing chemistry with each game and I like the way we adjusted in to their zone in the second half."
The second half was what won the game for the Bulldogs, who trailed by two at the half. Brooklyn dominated the third quarter, taking a 10 point lead with 2:35 left in the period, 40-30, on a
Twanda Holder jumper.
Baruch cut the deficit to five, 45-40, to end the period, however the Bulldogs would get right back to work in the 4th as two
Olivia Colbert free throws capped a 16-2 run, ballooning the lead to 19, 61-42, with 4:45 to go. Baruch didn't challenge the rest of the contest, as Brooklyn won their third consecutive game.
Brooklyn was led by Colbert's 15 points and 12 boards, while
Taylor Gallagher exploded for 14 points, four steals and six assists in 16 minutes of action.
Karen Mak came off the Bulldog bench to contribute 11 points and five assists.
Twanda Holder and
Justine Vento each chipped in with nine points, while Holder also pulled down nine boards, and Vento grabbed eight.
BC will be back in action on Wednesday, January 13, at Hunter for a conference doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM followed by the men's game at 7:00 PM.
