WEST QUAD CENTER Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's volleyball team dropped a tough non-conference match to local foe St. Joseph's Brooklyn this evening, 3-2. Brooklyn falls to 7-21 with the defeat while the Bears improved to 9-8 with the win. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday to host their final regular season game in conference play against York on Senior Day. Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
The visitors came out of the gate with a little more fire than the Bulldogs, closing out the first set with a 25-14 win. However, the Bulldogs would respond in the second set, rallying for six straight to start the game. With the Bulldogs leading 20-12, the Bears would make things interesting with a 6-0 run of their own to pull within a couple. Brooklyn eventually pulled out the second set win on a
Helen Lau kill set up by sophomore setter
Monineath Pen.
Brooklyn took a 2-1 lead in the third set thanks in part to a 7-0 rally early in the set, giving the Bulldogs a comfortable enough lead that they wouldn't relinquish. They would go on to win the third set 25-17.
Played closely through most of the fourth set, the Bears would score five straight down the stretch to force a tie-breaker with a 25-19 victory.
As they had done all evening long, the two Brooklyn schools played point-for-point through the majority of the tie-breaker until the Bears scored five of the final six points for the 15-8 set victory and match win.
Brooklyn was led by senior middle blocker
Francesca LoCascio's nine kills. She also finished with five blocks on the evening. Sophomore setter
Monineath Pen assisted on 21 kills for the match.
