Daytona Beach, FL---Never trailing the entire game, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team closed out their trip to Florida with a 67-47 win over Maine Maritime Academy (4-6) in the Land of Magic Classic this afternoon. Brooklyn improves to 6-2 with the win. The Bulldogs continue non-conference play at home on January 3 as they take on Buffalo State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
Leading by fifteen points to start the second half, the Bulldogs stopped a minor Mariner threat in the first five minutes of the third period to maintain a double-digit lead for the remaining of the game. Brooklyn would go on to lead by as many as 22 points with just under a minute remaining in the game.
Every Bulldog suited for the game would log minutes, while nine BC players scored.
Brooklyn kept the Mariners in check all afternoon long, holding them to under thirty-percent (29.4%) shooting from the floor as a team.
Brooklyn jumped out of the gate with a 12-1 run to set the tone for the first half. The Bulldogs' defensive pressure and depth proved to be too much for the Mariners as they only managed two made field goals in the opening period. Sophomore wing
Alexandra Moogan gave the Bulldogs an offensive boost off of the bench as she made a lay-up to close out the first period, and opened up the scoring for BC at the 8:11 mark in the second period to give the Bulldogs a 17-5 lead. She led all scorers at the half with seven points.
Senior center
Maya Ajee-Thomas' lay-in with 3:02 left in the second period was the last time either team would score in the first half. The Bulldogs would go into halftime with the 25-10 advantage and their largest lead at that point of the game.
Sophomore wing
Alexandra Moogan came up big for the Bulldogs off of the bench, knocking down five from beyond on the arc for a team-high 19 points. Junior guard Kailyn Richburg also provided firepower off of the bench, adding 11 points and coming up with four steals on the afternoon. Senior forward
