Men's Volleyball Sweeps Medgar Evers for Conference Win

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball bounced back from a home loss against Baruch on Tuesday, sweeping Medgar Evers (1-19, 0-12 CUNYAC) in CUNYAC action this evening, 3-0.  BC improves to 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the CUNYAC with the victory.  The Bulldogs return home in CUNYAC action on Tuesday to play host to first-place in the CUNYAC, Hunter College, at 6:00 PM.

The Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the first game and never looked back.  They would lead 16-3 heading into the later points of the game.  Sophomore middle hitter Rudy Zhao ended the match opener with a kill set by fellow sophomore middle hitter Ian Miranda.  BC won the first game inconvincing fashion, 25-11.

In the second game, the Cougars would protect their home court a little bit better than the first, leading 6-5 early in the game.  However, a Vaughn Titus kill and a couple of Cougar attack errors helped give BC the 9-6 advantage.  Leading 16-14, the Bulldogs began to pull away with three straight points.  They finished the game with more straight points for the 25-17 victory.

With the score tied 8-8 to start the third game, Brooklyn would score four straight points including two consecutive Zhao kills in a row for the 12-8 edge.  BC kept a comfortable lead until Medgar Evers cut the deficit to 19-17.  Brooklyn scored three straight in the later moments of the game to take a 23-18 lead making the difference to sweep the match in the next three points.

The Bulldogs were led by Rudy Zhao's 17.5 points including 15 kills.  Vaughn Titus finished with eight kills.  Freshman setter Sayuj Zachariah finished with 23 assists on the evening.
