Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Men's Volleyball Edged By John Jay, 3-1

New York, NY---Winning the third game and taking two of the other three games down to the wire, the Brooklyn College men's volleyball team eventually fell in CUNYAC action this evening at John Jay, 3-1.  The Bulldogs drop to 7-17 and 4-9 in conference play with the defeat.  John Jay improved to 13-10 and 10-4 with the victory.  BC will be in action at York on Saturday in a CUNYAC multi-match.  At 11:00 AM the Bulldogs will take on CCNY and at 3:00 PM, BC will wrap up the day against Medgar Evers.

In the first game, the Bulldogs got themselves in a 7-1 hole they would not be able to climb out of for the remainder of the game.  After cutting the Bloodhound lead down to 11-7, John Jay would score four straight for the type of breathing room they had to start the match.  John Jay closed out the first game, 25-17.

The Bulldogs bounced back in the second game, jumping out to a 4-0 to start the game.  John Jay came back and tied the score 12-12.  The Bloodhounds then made scored four unanswered for the 16-12 advantage.  Trailing 20-15, the Bulldogs did not give in, scoring five unanswered points to knot the game 20-20.  However, John Jay closed out the game scoring five of the next seven points including twice in a row on two separate occasions.

BC avoided the shutout by playing resilient volleyball in the third game.  Every time the Bloodhounds gained a slight advantage, the Bulldogs responded and kept the game close throughout.  Trailing 22-23, the Bulldogs scored three straight to end the game 25-23.

The fourth game mirrored the second with it being close throughout.  However, the Bloodhounds were able to be a couple of quick clusters of points together throughout the game that kept BC playing catch-up to possibly force a fifth game.  John Jay eventually prevailed in the fourth to win the match, 25-22.

BC was led by freshman outside hitter Vaughn Titus' 14 kills, two service aces, and three assisted blocks.  Sophomore middle hitter Rudy Zhao also had a standout performance finishing 13 kills and a team-high 10 digs.  Freshman setter Sayuj Zachariah led the way with 25 assists.

The Bulldogs will look to even the score with John Jay at home on Tuesday, March 29.
