ECAC DIVISION III METRO/UPSTATE CHAMPIONSHIP Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team ended the 2015-16 season on a high-note this afternoon, defeating #3-seeded College of Staten Island, 59-55, for their second ECAC Divsion III Metro/Upstate title in a row. Sophomore captain guard, Karen Mak, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for her efforts in the semifinal and final. The #1-seeded Bulldogs end the season with a 21-8 overall record. CSI ends their season with a 19-9 mark.

"Winning this championship was an amazing experience," said Mak of her team's accomplishment. "I feel honored to have been named Most Outstanding Player, but know that I owe this accomplishment to my teammates and coaches for pushing me and supporting me.  I am so excited and confident going into next season with my team all back."

For the Bulldogs, this season's 21-win effort marks the fifth consecutive season of 21 wins or more, and gives the team a five-year total of 110 wins.

"I'm extremely proud of this year's team," said Head Coach Alex Lang.  "For us to get to this level of play without a senior on our roster and having no returning starters from last year's squad is amazing.  Our team improved immensely throughout the year, which is a credit to the players on this team, who worked so hard to make sure that this season would be a success. Winning consecutive ECAC Championships is a tremendous feat for our program and this 2015-2016 season gives our entire campus reason to be excited for next season as we no seniors."

Lang's Bulldogs did not trail for the entire game, and jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first period after starting the game on a 5-0 run capped by a Karen Mak three-point make.

CSI would not hand the Bulldogs their second championship in a row, cutting the BC lead to two points with 37-seconds to go in the first half. However, the Bulldogs responded with two consecutive lay-ins including a Mak lay-up just as the buzzer sounded to take a 30-24 halftime lead.

Junior forward Olivia Colbert opened the second half converting a three-point play after being fouled on a made lay-in off of an offensive board. Mak would give the Bulldogs a double-digit lead with two made free-throws and an Emma Somers fast-break lay-up gave the Bulldogs a 37-24 advantage a little over a minute into the second half.

Once again, the Dolphins would not go away, cutting the Bulldog lead down to six points with 1:33 remaining in the contest. However, the Bulldogs came up with a couple of key steals and made enough free throws down the stretch to weather the storm. BC shot the ball very well from the charity stripe on the afternoon connecting on 13 of 15 attempts as a team.

BC dominated the Dolphins on the boards, out-rebounding them 55-34 including 25 offensive rebounds.

Brooklyn was led by tournament MOP Karen Mak's 17 points, ten rebounds, and four assists. Junior center Maya Agee-Thomas finished with one of her best offensive performances of the season finishing with 13 points. Junior forward Olivia Colbert added one last double-double to her 2015-16 collection finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
