Softball Drops Two to #23 Manhattanville

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to No. 23 nationally ranked Manhattanville College on Tuesday night.  In the first game, the Valiants scored seven runs in the second inning to roll to a 17-2 victory.  The Bulldogs were shut out 10-0 in th second game with MC's starter yielding only two Brooklyn hits in the night cap.  BC drops to 4-17 overall on the season with the two losses.  The Valiants improved to 27-1 with the wins.  Next up for the Bulldogs is a road CUNYAC doubleheader against Hunter on Randall's Island Field #15 on Saturday, which is schedule to start at NOON.

After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning of the first inning, the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning against the national power.  Senior shortstop Samantha Rodriguez hit two-RBI double sending Breanna Maresca and Michelle Cranston home.  Cranston reached base earlier in the inning by walk and Maresca moved her over to third with a double before Rodriguez's shot.  Unfortunately for BC, the Valiant's pitcher settled in and only allowed two hits the rest of the way.  Manhattanville capped their offensive display with a three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning.

In Game 2, the Valiants jumped out to 3-0 lead in the the top of the first inning and never looked back as the Manhattanville starter dealt, giving up only two hits on the evening.  Errors plagued Brooklyn in the second game with five.  Maresca and Rodriguez mustered up a single each for the Bulldogs' only hits.

Brooklyn will host their final doubleheader at Brooklyn College Field of the season on Tuesday, April 26 against conference foe Baruch.  First game of the CUNYAC doubleheader is set to start at 11:00 AM.
