Softball Drops a Pair at Purchase

Purchase, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped their seventh and eighth games in a row to start the season at Purchase on Wednesday evening.  Purchase improves to 10-2 with all ten victories on their home diamond.  The Bulldogs will look to break into the win column on Friday, 4/8, as they play host to non-conference College of New Rochelle.  First pitch of a doubleheader is slated for 5:00 PM at Brooklyn College Field.

In game one, the Panthers scored three runs in the fourth inning to blow the game wide open, ending in an 8-1 win. Senior outfielder Ashley Mendez scored the Bulldogs' lone run in the first game.  Senior infielder Samantha Rodriguez drove Mendez home on an RBI ground out to the shortstop in the top of the fourth inning.  First baseman Alexis Greco managed the Bulldogs' only hit with a single.  Purchase's starting pitcher pitched all seven innings allowing a run, a hit, and walked three.  Freshman pitcher Uena Xharo (0-3) was credited with the loss pitching six innings, allowing 10 hits and five earned runs.

The Panthers scored four runs (three unearned) in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back rolling to a 10-0 win.  Purchase's starter pitched a five inning shutout giving up a hit and walking a batter.  Third baseman Michelle Cranston's double was the Bulldogs' only hit in the second game.  Xharo would again be credited for the loss, pitching the first two innings of the game giving up four earned runs.
