Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team picked up their first two wins of the season this evening under rookie Head Coach and Brooklyn alumn,
Antoinette Brown, defeating The College of New Rochelle 8-0 in the first game and 11-3 in the night cap of non-conference doubleheader at Brooklyn College Field. The Bulldogs move to 2-8 with the victories. CNR drops to 0-9 to start the season. The Bulldogs will be back on the field on Sunday to host CUNYAC-leading College of Staten Island for a conference doubleheader starting at noon.
Freshman pitcher
Uena Xharo picked up her first win as a Bulldog pitching five shutout innings. She would strike out five with no walks. Senior infielder Rodriguez helped the Bulldogs get on the scoreboard in the third inning with an RBI double scoring
Michelle Cranston. BC scored three more times in the third inning including a couple runs on wild pitches. A couple of RBI singles hit by freshman
Brianna Preston and junior
Alexis Greco in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Bulldogs a 7-0 lead. The Bulldogs ended the game in the bottom of the fifth with senior pitcher
Ashley Mendez and rounding the bases on wild pitches.
After trailing 1-0 to start the second game of the doubleheader, the Bulldogs responded with a four-run first inning started with a
Breanna Maresca RBI double with the bases loaded that drove home Mendez and Cranston who walked and was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Rodriguez and Maresca would score the final two runs of the inning on wild pitches. BC blew the game wide opened in the second inning, scoring six runs including an in-the-park two-run home run blasted by Rodriguez also scoring Cranston who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. Mendez picked up her first win of the season pitching five solid innings allowing three runs and striking out three of 22 batters faced.
