Men's Soccer's Comeback At NYU Falls Short in Season Opener, 2-1

Bronx, NY---The Brooklyn College men's soccer team fell behind 0-2 in the first fourteen minutes of their season opener to eventually fall 2-1 at New York University this evening.  BC will look to bounce back this weekend as they travel to New Haven, CT to take on Albertus Magnus.  Kickoff is slated for noon.

NYU capitalized on a free kick in the 12th minute of the match to take an early 1-0 lead. They would score the winning goal a little over two minutes later off of a turnover slightly above the box.

The Bulldogs proved to be a different team in the second half. Outshot 13-2 in the opening period, BC bounced back to outshoot the home team 8-7 in the second half. Senior forward Valentyn Kharko scored Brooklyn's goal in the 68th minute to cut the lead to 2-1.  Brooklyn continued to apply the pressure but NYU dodged a couple of bullets late to hold on for the victory.

In his head coaching debut with the Bulldogs, Joe Andre pointed out the bright spots following the match saying, "We played a strong second half. I thought our freshman goalkeeper, Jerron Streete, did a great job tonight."

Streete played all ninety minutes between the sticks, finishing the evening with eight saves.
