Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's basketball team dropped their fourth staright conference game this evening, falling to Baruch, 76-61, in a rematch of the 2016 CUNYAC championship game. It is the Bulldogs' eighth loss overall in a row. Brooklyn drops to 3-13 overall and 1-6 in CUNYAC. Baruch improved to 11-4 and 5-2 with the victory. The Bulldogs will look to get their first win since the first semester on Saturday as they cross the Verrazzano Bridge to take on College of Staten Island who currently sits in first place in the conference. Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm.
Trailing by 14 points with a little under four minutes to play in the game, it looked like the Bulldogs found some life for a comeback after made
Enees Nikovic free-throw and then a
Maynard Grant three-point make to cut the Baruch lead to 67-57 with just over three minutes to play. However, the Bearcats rattled off five straight to create the cushion that eventually closed out the game.
The Bulldogs found themselves in a similar ole earlier in the second half, trailing by 13 points at the 18:19 mark. An 8-0 Brooklyn run capped by a three-point make by junior guard
Niv Konfino cut the Bearcat lead to 44-39 with 16:12 remaining in regulation. However, the Bearcats went on a 12-4 run in the next six-plus minutes of action to push the lead back up to 13 points with just under ten minutes to play.
The teams traded baskets through the first five minutes of the game with the Bulldogs clinging on to a 10-9 lead following a Konfino fastbreak lay-in with 15:09 remaining in the first half. Brooklyn led by as many as three points in the first half.
Already leading by four points, the Bearcats would go on an 8-0 run to lead by as many as 12 points in the first half and head into halftime with a 36-30 advantage.
Baruch shot an efficient 45.5% (5-11) from behind the arc as a team on the evening to Brooklyn's 23.1% (6-26). The Bearcat reserves outscored the Bulldogs' 24-5 for the game.
