Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes Women's Basketball Past Hunter, 58-48

New York, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team outscored Hunter College 21-11 in the final period to improve to 8-1 in CUNYAC this evening.  Brooklyn improves to 12-3 overall with the conference victory.  Hunter drops to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in CUNYAC.  The Bulldogs continue their conference schedule on Friday as they travel to the Bronx to take on Lehman.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm following the men's contest.

Falling behind 40-39 following a Hunter three-point make in the first minute and half of the final period, the Bulldogs went on a 10-0 run to take a 49-40 lead with 5:55 left in the game.  During the run, junior guard, Karen Mak, drilled two three-pointers, one of which sparked the BC spurt.  Mak would finish the game with 15 points on 6-12 from the floor including 3-4 from beyond the arc.  Senior forward Olivia Colbert scored the other two buckets during the run, finishing with a game-high 17 points on 7-12 from the floor.

The Hawks would temporarily stop the bleeding with a three-point make, cutting the BC lead down to 49-43 with 4:42 remaining in the game, but the Bulldogs responded with seven unanswered points giving them a commanding 55-43 lead with 3:30 left in the game.  Brooklyn would keep a double-digit lead from that point until time expired on the Hawks.

The Bulldogs took control of the game in the opening ten minutes of the contest, grabbing a 13-6 lead to end the first period.  Hunter answered on their home court, outscoring the Bulldogs 21-12 to take a 27-25 halftime lead.  Brooklyn kept a two-point edge in the third period for a tie game (37-37) heading into the final ten minutes of the contest.

Brooklyn out-rebounded Hunter 43-34 including 15-11 on the offensive glass.  In addition to her 17 points, Colbert flirted with a double-double finishing the evening with nine rebounds.

Senior guard Justine Vento provided a scoring punch off of the bench tonight, finishing with nine points on 3-8 from behind the arc.

Hunter was led by Jade Aponte's 15 points.
