Men's Volleyball Falls In Season Opening Tri-Match

Olivet, MI---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped the first two matches of the 2017 season this evening falling to Olivet College and Fontbonne University in a tri-match hosted by Olivet.

Match 1 - BC - 0, Olivet - 3 (22-25, 15-25, 23-25)

Making a stand in the opening set against the host, Brooklyn was tied with Olivet 22-22 down the stretch of the game.  However, Olivet survived with a BC attack error, and closed out the set with a kill and a service ace.

Olivet rolled in the second set following a 2-0 BC start.  Already leading 12-9 towards the middle of the set, the host scored five unanswered to build a 17-9 lead.

Trailing 6-1 to start the third set, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game only trailing 24-23.  However, OC closed out the match with a kill following Brooklyn's 3-0 run leading up to that point.

Brooklyn was led by junior middle hitter Rudy Zhao's 10 kills.  Sophomore outside hitter Vaughn Titus eight kills and served up two aces.

Match 2 - BC - 0, Fontbonne 3 (15-25, 11-25, 19-25)

Fontbonne University controlled the match from the opening serve, jumping out to an 8-4 lead following four straight scores in the first set.

Already leading 14-7 in the second set, FU racked up eight straight to take a 22-7 lead.

With the Bulldogs only trailing 10-8 in the third set, Fontbonne capitalized on a BC service error, attack error, and a kill to create enough distance to keep the Bulldogs playing catch-up the remainder of the match.

Brooklyn was led by freshman Ahmed Moawad's seven kills.  Freshman setter Eddie Peng finished with 22 assists.
