Olivet, MI---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team dropped the first two matches of the 2017 season this evening falling to Olivet College and Fontbonne University in a tri-match hosted by Olivet.
Match 1 - BC - 0, Olivet - 3 (22-25, 15-25, 23-25)
Making a stand in the opening set against the host, Brooklyn was tied with Olivet 22-22 down the stretch of the game. However, Olivet survived with a BC attack error, and closed out the set with a kill and a service ace.
Olivet rolled in the second set following a 2-0 BC start. Already leading 12-9 towards the middle of the set, the host scored five unanswered to build a 17-9 lead.
Trailing 6-1 to start the third set, the Bulldogs clawed their way back into the game only trailing 24-23. However, OC closed out the match with a kill following Brooklyn's 3-0 run leading up to that point.
Brooklyn was led by junior middle hitter
Rudy Zhao's 10 kills. Sophomore outside hitter
Vaughn Titus eight kills and served up two aces.
Match 2 - BC - 0, Fontbonne 3 (15-25, 11-25, 19-25)
Fontbonne University controlled the match from the opening serve, jumping out to an 8-4 lead following four straight scores in the first set.
Already leading 14-7 in the second set, FU racked up eight straight to take a 22-7 lead.
With the Bulldogs only trailing 10-8 in the third set, Fontbonne capitalized on a BC service error, attack error, and a kill to create enough distance to keep the Bulldogs playing catch-up the remainder of the match.
