Men's Volleyball Wins Home Opener Over Purchase, 3-1

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball won their home opener this evening, defeating Purchase College (0-1), 3-1 (25-23, 25-14, 22-25, 25-20) in non-conference action at the West Quad Center.  Their first win of the season, the Bulldogs move to 1-2 overall.  Brooklyn remains home to host first-year program, St. Joseph's College Long Island next Thursday.  Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the West Quad Center.  

Trailing 12-9 in the fourth set, the Bulldogs tied the score with three straight points capped by an Eddie Peng block, building the momentum back in BC's favor.  Following a Purchase point, the Bulldogs scored seven straight for a 19-13 advantage.  Brooklyn closed out the set and the match on a Titus Vaughn kill.  

After edging the Panthers in the opening set, 25-23, the Bulldogs rolled in the second set, 25-14.  Purchase avoided the sweep by coming out hot in the third set, jumping out to a 9-4 lead to start the game.  Purchase maintained a lead lead through the rest of the third set despite a late BC push that cut the Purchase lead to 24-22.  PC ended the third set with a Kevin Carges kill.  

Aggressive all evening long, junior middle hitter Rudy Zhao led all players with 15 kills.  Sophomore and reigning CUNYAC Rookie of the Year, Titus Vaughn, racked up nine kills, two service aces, two solo blocks, and a block assist on the evening.  Junior setter Eddie Peng finished with 30 assists on the evening.
