Brooklyn, NY---Looking for their second win in a row in non-conference play at home, the men's volleyball team's streak hopes were spoiled by St. Joseph's College Long Island who took the match in three games (19-25, 19-25, 12-25). The Bulldogs drop to 1-3 on the season while the up-start Golden Eagles improved to 3-0. Brooklyn continues their non-conference home stand next Wednesday against St. Joseph's College Brooklyn. Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
With the Bulldogs only trailing 17-15 in the first set, the Golden Eagles rallied for seven straight points to take a commanding 24-15 lead. Brooklyn didn't give up, responding with four straight of their own to cut the lead to 24-19. However, SJCLI closed out the first set with a textbook dig, set, and kill.
Coming out with a little bit more fire in the second set, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early 5-2 lead following a Seva Tsyupa kill. The set would remain close a little over halfway through the set with the Golden Eagles clinging to a 14-13 lead. The Golden Eagles would then score five of the next six points for a 19-14 advantage that gave them the cushion they needed to close out the set.
The visitors rolled in the third set, jumping out to a 9-3 lead and never looking back.
Brooklyn was led by junior outside hitter
Rudy Zhao's seven kills on the evening. Sophomore
Vaughn Titus added five kills. Titus finished with three solo blocks on the night. Junior setter
Eddie Peng set for a team-high ten assists.
