Three Second Half Goals Advances No. 3 Brooklyn Over No. 6 Hunter to CUNYAC Semifinals

Brooklyn, NY---Trailing No. 6 Hunter College 1-0 at halftime, the No. 3 seeded Brooklyn College (9-7-2) men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals in the second period for a 3-1 victory in the CUNYAC Championships First Round at Brooklyn College Field this evening.  With the win, Brooklyn advances to the Semifinals on Saturday when they will take on No. 2 seed John Jay College on Randall's Island at 1:00 pm.  Hunter ends the season with a 3-13 record.

The underdog would strike first this evening as Hunter's Jesus Patino Muniz would penetrate through the top of the box and find a streaking Aristofanis Ionnidis for his second goal of the season in the 19th minute of action.  Brooklyn would not have an answer for the remainder of the period with a couple of shots gone wide and shot-on-goal saved in the final ten minutes.

Brooklyn looked like a completely different team in the second period showing more urgency especially offensively.  Senior midfielder, Jordy Ortiz, would score the equalizer in the 55th minute on an assist from junior midfielder Ahmad Aly who pushed the ball up the left side of the pitch, finding Ortiz trailing.

The Bulldogs continued to wear the Hawks down, and in the 59th minute, BC freshman standout, Azizjon Ziyaev, knocked the game-winner home from the top of the box on an assist from senior back Krystian Boguski.  A little over two minutes later, the Hawks looked to respond with a shot-on-goal hit by Esteban Correa, but was deterred by BC sophomore keeper, Utku Tanritanir, for one of his four saves on the night.

Under three minutes after having a shot go wide, Aly would notch his second and third points of the night in the 71st minute of the match on his patented push down the left sideline to goal. Aly's goal would prove to be plenty of insurance for Brooklyn to close out the match.

Brooklyn would outshoot Hunter 19-10 for the match including 7-5 on shots-on-goal. Hunter goalie, Paul Alain Yovoh Tenfoung, finished with four saves in all ninety minutes of action for the Hawks.
