Buffalo, NY---A day after their 81-36 rout of Pitt-Greensburg on the opening afternoon of the Buffalo State Tournament yesterday, the Bulldogs faced a tougher challenge with the host, Buffalo State, but outscored the Bengals 20-10 in the final quarter for the 57-52 championship game victory. BC improves to 3-0 to start the season. The Bulldogs will play their Home Opener on Tuesday, November 21, against Farmingdale State as the first part of a non-conference basketball doubleheader at 5:00 pm.
How It Happened
-Trailing by five points after the third quarter, the Bulldogs opened the fourth and final quarter with a 10-0 run capped by a made jumper shot by senior guard,
Karen Mak, with 6:17 to go. The Bengals would tie the game, 48-48, two minutes later before the Bulldogs took the lead for good thanks to a 6-0 run over the next three minutes.
-The host was determined to protect their home court, grabbing a 27-22 halftime lead.
-Buffalo State extended their lead to as many as 14 points early in the second half before the Bulldogs began to chip away towards the end of the third quarter. A made three-pointer shot by junior guard, Grace Espina-Martinez cut the Bengals lead to three points with 1:26 left in the third.
