Men's Basketball Falls in Conference Opener at Hunter, 74-64

New York, NY---The Brooklyn College men's basketball team dropped its conference opener at Hunter College tonight, 74-64, falling to 0-6 to start the season.  Hunter moves to 2-4 with the CUNYAC win.  Brooklyn will return home Tuesday to host Stevens Tech in the second part of a non-conference doubleheader following the women's game.  Tip-off is slated for 7:15 pm at the West Quad Center.  

How It Happened

-With the game tied 42-42 with 14:25 remaining in regulation, Hunter would go on a 14-2 run over the next eight minutes of play.  Brooklyn responded with a 10-0 run of its own to cut the Hawk lead to two with 2:42 left in the game.  Following three straight Hunter points, Brooklyn cut the lead to two again with 1:12 left in the game following a Ben Batash three-point make, but Hunter finished its strong evening at the charity stripe to close out the contest. 
-Brooklyn scored on their first two offensive possessions of the contest to take an early 4-0 lead in the game's opening minutes.  BC head into halftime with a two-point advantage over the home team. 
-Hunter shot 21-23 from the free throw line for the game to Brooklyn's 5-10. 

Box Score Breakdown 

-All five Hunter starters reached double-figures in scoring.
-BC committed 20 turnovers to Hunter's 14.
-Hunter out-rebounded Brooklyn 12-8 on the offensive glass. 

Leading the Bulldogs

-Senior guard Maynard Grant IV scored a team-high 15 points.
-Guard Ben Batash added 13 points while shooting 3-5 from beyond the arc.  

Leading the Hawks

-George Keener scored a game-high 19 points.
-Danny Fusco and Matt Franks netted 17 points each.
