Bulldogs Handed First Loss of Season at Hunter, 87-83

New York, NY----The Brooklyn College women's basketball team dropped its first loss of the season, 87-83, at Hunter College in both teams' conference opener.  Brooklyn moves to 5-1 overall with the loss.  Hunter improved to 5-1 with the CUNYAC victory.  Brooklyn returns to action at home on Tuesday in a non-conference game against NYU as the first part of a doubleheader with the Brooklyn men's team.  Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm.  

How It Happened

-Leading by a point at halftime, Hunter outscored Brooklyn 31-17 in the third quarter beginning with a 9-0 run in the first two and half minutes.  
-Brooklyn would outscore Hunter by eleven points in the final quarter, but the Hawks connected on free throws down the stretch to keep at least a two-possession lead the rest of the way.  
-The Bulldogs would lead by as many as seven points in the first half following a made three buried by freshman guard, Taylor George, with 6:40 remaining in the second quarter.  
-Hunter was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line in the first half and shot a over 78% for the game.  Brooklyn shot over 68% from the charity stripe on the night. 

Box Score Breakdown

-BC guards Karen Mak and Taylor George combined for 45 points on the night and were BC's only two double-digit scorers.
-Four Hawks reached double-digits in scoring for the night. 
-The Hawks shot 50% from the field to BC's 33%. 
- Brooklyn out-rebounded the Hawks 19-14 on the offensive glass. 

Leading the Bulldogs

-George led Brooklyn with 23 points while Mak added 22. George also had five steals on the defensive end.  
-Freshman forward Chanel Jemmott flirted with a double-double finishing nine points and nine rebounds. 

Leading Hunter

-Christine Patterson led all scorers with 24 points.  Jade Aponte chipped in 18 points.
-Ashley Arias grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
