Women's Basketball Pulls Out Big Non-Conference Win Against NYU, 55-46

Brooklyn, NY---Putting out a tough defensive effort and making key plays throughout the game, the Brooklyn College women's basketball team held off New York University, 55-46, at the West Quad Center tonight to improve to 6-1 to start the season.  NYU drops to 4-4 with the loss.  The Bulldogs return to CUNYAC action at Lehman College on Friday at 7:00 pm, following the men's game.  

How It Happened

-The Bulldogs held the Violets to 25.4% shooting from the field including 16.7% from beyond the arc tonight.  
-Leading 48-44, the Bulldogs' freshman guard Ericka Fenelus gathered an offensive rebound and dished it to junior guard Emma Somers who scooped in with 2:38 left in regulation to give BC the six-point advantage.  
-Coming out halftime with a six-point advantage, the Bulldogs would lead by as many as 13 points in the third quarter.  

Box Score Breakdown

-Brooklyn shot 46.2% (6-13) from beyond the arc. 
-BC out-rebounded the Violets 43-40 despite being out-rebounded 21-12 on the offensive boards. 

Leading the Bulldogs

-Freshman guard Taylor George led all scorers with 18 points.  She would also shoot a perfect 3-3 from 'downtown'. 
-Senior guard Karen Mak added 12 points and four assists. 

Leading NYU

-Kayla Patterson scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for contest's only double-double.
