Men's Basketball Falls to John Jay on Senior Night

Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College men's basketball team dropped their final home game of the regular season this evening, falling to John Jay College, 86-70, on the Bulldogs' Senior Night.  Brooklyn drops to 5-19 and 3-12 with the CUNYAC loss.  John Jay improved to 10-10 and 8-7 with the victory.  The Bulldogs close out the regular season at York on Monday in a must-win game that will determine their playoff fate.

Led by junior guard Maynard Grant's 18 points, three other Bulldogs reached double-figure scoring including senior guard, Austin Wood, and senior center, Enees Nikovic who each finished with 14 points.  Nikovic picked up his 13th double-double on the season also grabbing 14 rebounds in the game.

A nine point game at the half in favor of the Bloodhounds, John Jay opened the second period with a 9-0 run including back-to-back three-point makes shot by sophomore guard Essien Epps. Following another made jumper by Epps with 16:16 left to play, the Bulldogs would go on an 8-0 run to cut the Bloodhound lead to ten with 13:29 left in regulation.  John Jay then went on another 9-0 run to grab their largest lead of the game (19) with just over nine minutes to play.

It would be too little, too late for the Bulldogs as they cut the Bloodhound lead back down to ten with 2:23 left in the game.  However, John Jay converted on enough free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

The Bloodhounds shot an efficient 51.6% in the first half to the Bulldogs' 41.7% including 50% from three-point range (7-14).

John Jay led by as many as 11 points in the opening half.  A Michael Tesoriero lay-in cut the Bloodhound lead to 40-34 with 1:30 left before halftime.  John Jay's Tyrone Dennis buried a three with six ticks left in the first half to take a 43-34 halftime lead.
