Jamaica, NY---The Brooklyn College women's basketball team cruised to an 87-26 victory at York this evening in their last conference game of the regular season. BC improves to 19-5 overall on the season and 14-2 in CUNYAC. York drops to 2-22 and 2-14. The Bulldogs will wrap up the regular season on Thursday in non-conference action at Farmingdale State on Thursday. Brooklyn clinched the regular season CUNYAC title tonight and will enter the upcoming CUNYAC Championships as the No. 1 seed.
Senior guard
Taylor Gallagher led the Bulldogs with a game-high 23 points, shooting 5-9 from three-point range. Brooklyn would be in a scoring frenzy all evening, averaging almost 22 points per period. Twelve of the thirteen Bulldogs that stepped on the court scored at least three points tonight.
The Bulldogs turned their pressure defense into offense, scoring 50 points off of the Cardinals' 33 turnovers. Brooklyn held York to under ten points in three of the four periods of the contest including only five points in the first and third periods combined.
Brooklyn started the game with a 16-0 run until York's Rafaella Savva hit a three to get the Cardinals on the board at 3:46 mark in the opening period. It was York's only score of the period.
The Bulldogs head into halftime with a 45-12 advantage.
Brooklyn continued to cruise in the second half with a number of reserves contributing solid efforts including sophomore guard
Grace Martinez-Espina who buried a pair from beyond the arc.
Sophomore wing
Alexandra Moogan had a strong performance off of the bench finishing with 11 points and seven rebounds in only 13 minutes of action. She also finished with four steals in the win. Junior guard
Karen Mak dished out nine assists to teammates to go along with seven rebounds and six points. Senior center
Maya Ajee-Thomas grabbed a game-high 11 boards and blocked two shots.
The Cardinals were led by Raefella Savva's six points on two made three-point field goals.
