New York, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team split at a CUNYAC tri-match today, falling to No. 11 Hunter, 0-3, and shut out the host, John Jay, 3-0 to move to 11-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play on the season. Brooklyn will host their final two home matches of the regular season this week, taking on Bard in non-conference play on Tuesday at 7:00 pm on a Whiteout Night, and CCNY in CUNYAC action on Thursday.
With every set played closely through the entire match against John Jay, the Bulldogs would string points together at the right time in every game.
Despite falling behind 6-2 to start the match with the Bloodhounds, BC tied the game 8-8 with four straight scores. The teams would trade points finding themselves tied 15-15 until the Bulldogs took the lead for good, scoring four of the next five points of the set. Junior outside hitter
Rudy Zhao ended the first set with a kill. He finished the match with a match-high 10 kills with a .304 hitting percentage.
Brooklyn rolled in the second set, jumping out to a 10-5 lead and never looking back. Zhao also ended the second set with a kill.
Similar to the second set, the Bulldogs jumped out to another convincing lead early in the third game. On the cusp of ending the match with a 24-18 advantage, the home team made one final push to pull within three before an attack error that gave the Bulldogs the conference victory.
Sophomore outside hitter
Vaughn Titus also had a standout performance finishing with eight kills with a .400 hitting percentage, and led the Bulldogs defensively with eight digs. Junior setter
Eddie Peng set for 16 assists without an error.
In the morning match, No. 11 Hunter jumped on BC early, winning the first set 5-25. However, the Bulldogs got better as the match progressed. Brooklyn eventually fell 22-25 in the final set after dropping the second, 16-25. The Hawks would go on to sweep the tri-match, shutting out John Jay, 3-0, in the second match of the day.
