Men's Volleyball Edges York, 3-2, to Remain Undefeated in CUNYAC

Jamaica, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team was victorious in their first five-set match of the season, defeating York College, 3-2 (25-9, 20-25, 25-16, 27-29, 15-11), to remain undefeated in conference play (3-0).  BC improves to 9-6 overall with the CUNYAC victory.  York dropped to 3-12 and 0-3 with the the home loss.  The Bulldogs return home on Thursday to host Lehman in a non-conference match at 6:00 pm.  

With the match tied 2-2, the Bulldogs opened the deciding set with a 5-0 including two kills put away by junior captain, Rudy Zhao.  The Cardinals responded with four unanswered of their own.  However, were never able to tie or take the lead.  Find themselves leading 9-8 down the stretch of the set, BC scored four stretch to put the cardinals on their heels with a 13-8 advantage.  Junior setter Eddie Peng ended the match with a service.  

The Bulldogs rolled in the opening set, cruising to a 12-2 to start the match.  BC closed out the first set scoring four of the last five points.  

After falling to the home team in the second set, the Bulldogs bounced back in the third set, leading the entire game.  BC would string together runs of two and three throughout the set for the convincing win.  

York would prove their resilience in the fourth set, coming back from a 21-12 deficit, scoring nine straight to tie the game 23-23.  The teams exchanged points until the Cardinals scored the last three points of the set to force a fifth set.  

Zhao led the Bulldogs with a season-high 15 kills for the match.  He also led BC with 13 digs.  Freshman middle hitter Ahmed Moawad added 13 kills and sophomore outside hitter Vaughn Titus finished with 12 kills.  Junior middle blocker Moaz Ali Choudhary had a team-high four blocks.  Peng finished with a match-high 27 assists.
