Box Score 2 Phoenixville, PA---The Brooklyn College softball team took both games of a non-conference doubleheader at the University Valley Forge this afternoon for their first two wins of the 2017 season. BC took Game 1, 9-5, before cruising to a 17-4 victory in Game 2. The Bulldogs move to 2-6 with the victories while UVF drops to 2-16 in defeat. Brooklyn returns to conference play at home on Tuesday to host John Jay. The CUNYAC double bill is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
Game 1 Recap | BC - 9, UVF - 5
- Brooklyn got on the board in the top of the second inning as sophomore second baseman, Nicole Rose, hit an RBI single driving junior third baseman Nicole Boudouris home. Rose would eventually cross home herself later in the inning on an E4.
- The Bulldogs scored three more runs in the top of the third inning, all on Patriot errors. Sophomore catcher Shakira Feliciano started the scoring, crossing home on a Patriot wild pitch. Rose scored her second run of the game on an error by the catcher after hitting another single.
- UVF responded with four runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the BC lead to 6-4.
- Sophomore outfielder Kyla Gardner hit an RBI single that drove freshman center fielder, Leslie Lima, home to give Brooklyn a 7-4 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Lima reached base on an error by the catcher to lead off for the Bulldogs. Gardner scored the Bulldogs second run of the inning, driven home by a RBI single hit by Feliciano.
- Held scoreless by the home team in the fifth and sixth innings, the Bulldogs tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman shortstop Anna Curran scored as sophomore outfielder Daminska Estime reached on an error.
- BC sophomore pitcher Uena Xharo (1-2) picked up her first win of the season in all seven innings of work. She struck out six in the win.
- Rose was a perfect 3-3 with an RBI. Boudouris was 2-4 and also scored two BC runs.
Game 2 Recap | BC - 17, UVF - 4 (5 Innings)
- Brooklyn took advantage of nine Patriot errors in the top of the first inning to jump out to an 11-0 lead to start the game. Feliciano and Lima both hit RBI singles in the inning.
- The Patriots scored twice in the first inning on a BC error and a passed ball. UVF stranded two base runners to end the inning.
- Lima led off the third inning with the first homerun of her college career to give BC a 12-3 lead. Gardner and junior left fielder Breanna Maresca scored after walking to give Brooklyn a 14-3 lead.
- Curran scored in the fourth inning after leading off with a triple.
- Boudouris and Maresca scored in fifth inning after reaching base with singles, giving BC a 17-3 lead.
- Lima was 3-5 including her homer with 2 RBIs, scoring three runs.
- Maresca scored four runs in the game.
- Anna Curran earned the first win of her BC career to move to 1-3 on the season in the circle, pitching all five innings. She was also 2-4 at the plate with a triple, drove in two runs, and scored twice herself.
