Brooklyn, NY---The Brooklyn College softball team dropped both games of a conference doubleheader this evening to John Jay College, moving to 2-8 overall and 0-4 in CUNYAC. John Jay improved to 3-11 and 3-3 in the conference for their second and third wins in a row. The Bulldogs continue conference play at Baruch on Saturday.
Game 1 Recap BC - 7 | John Jay - 18 (Six Innings)
After falling behind, 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Bulldogs responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead. Freshman center fielder,
Leslie Lima scored BC's first run of the game after leading off with a walk for the Bulldogs' first at-bat. Freshman infielder
Anna Curran scored the Bulldogs' second run of the game after reaching on a fielder's choice. She scored on a sacrifice fly hit by junior third baseman
Nicole Boudouris. Sophomore second baseman
Nicole Rose would drive sophomore catcher
Shakira Feliciano who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning home on a ground-out also advancing junior first baseman
Breanna Maresca to third base. Maresca would be driven home by sophomore outfielder
Angelica Cornier who hit an RBI single.
The Bloodhounds would retake the lead for good in the top of the second inning, scoring six runs to take a 7-4 lead. John Jay also made a pitching change that silenced the Bulldogs' bats in the bottom of the second.
John Jay added two runs in the third inning, both unearned due to an error. Brooklyn answered with a couple of runs in the bottom of the inning on Maresca RBI triple that scored Feliciano and a Boudouris RBI single that scored Maresca.
The Bloodhounds scored once again due to an error in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-6 lead before a Curran gorund-out that scored sophomore outfielder
Brianna Preston who doubled to lead-off the inning.
After another run in the fifth inning, the Bloodhounds unloaded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning for the final score, 18-7.
Game 2 Recap
Brooklyn would find themselves behind 2-0 to start the game, before knotting the score 2-2 in the bottom of the first inning. Lima scored BC's first run of the game on a wild pitch after walking to lead-off for the Bulldogs. Feliciano would score BC's only other run of the game being walked home with the bases loaded.
John Jay starting pitcher Jacqueline Cuateco would settle down, striking out five in five innings of work for her first win of the season. She would get plenty of help from the Bloodhound offense who scored 13 unanswered runs to end the evening in five innings.
