Men's Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season with Split at Non-Conference Tri-match

Staten Island, NY---The Brooklyn College men's volleyball team finished regular season play yesterday afternoon with a non-conference split at a tri-match hosted by the College of Staten Island.  Brooklyn was edged in their first match of the day by Wilkes University, 3-2, before defeating fellow CUNYAC member, CSI, 3-1.  The Bulldogs close out the regular season with a 13-11 oerall record.  Along with making a five-win improvement since last season, BC has finsihed the regular season with the highest winning percentage in a decade.  The Bulldogs will look to keep their season going as they host #5 John Jay as the #4 seed in the quarterfinal of the CUNYAC Championships on Tuesday.  Opening serve is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the West Quad Center.

In BC's first match of the day against Wilkes, the Bulldogs jumped out to 1-0 lead with a 25-23 win in the match's opening set.  The Colonels responded by winning the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-18.  BC fored a tie-breaker by winning the fourth set, which was closed out by back-to-back serve aces by sophomore outside hitter Vaughn Titus.  The match would come down to wire with the teams tied 13-13 before Wilkes picked up the non-conference win with a kill and a service ace.

Titus and senior outside hitter Rudy Zhao combined for 29 kills in the match with Zhao racking up a match-high 20.  Freshman middle hitter Ahmed Moawad finished with 16 kills and three blocks.

In the Bulldogs' second match of the day, BC took a 2-0 on CSI with back-to-back 25-18 wins in the first two sets.  The Dolphins avoided the shutout with a dramatic 26-24 win in the third set.  Despite trailing the Dolphins early in the fourth set, Brooklyn rallied for five straight points already up by two to take a 23-16 lead and complete control of the set to close out the match 25-19.

It would be Zhao and Titus again who led the match with 17 kills a piece.  Moawad put 12 kills away and blocked a pair of Dolphin attempts.
