Bulldogs Outlast John Jay, 76-67, In Conference Action

Brooklyn, NY---Paced by senior guard Ben Batash's season high 21 points, the Brooklyn College men's basketball team picked up their first win of the season this evening, taking down John Jay College, 76-67, in CUNYAC action at the West Quad Center. BC moves to 1-10 and 1-2 in CUNYAC with the victory.  John Jay drops to 3-7 and 0-4 in the conference.  The Bulldogs remain home to take on Medgar Evers in another conference match-up on Friday, January 5th.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 pm following the women's game.  

How It Happened 

-Clinging to a one-point lead with 15:18 left in the game, the Bulldogs when on a 9-1 run on three three-point makes including a pair buried by Batash to take a 53-44 lead with 9;56 left. 
-Brooklyn kicked their lead up to 17 points following a three-point make shot by freshman guard Noah Shy and lay-in converted by freshman forward, Alpha Bah. 
-The Bloodhounds cut the Brooklyn lead to 11 points with just over a minute to go but two free throw makes iced by senior guard, Niv Konfino, put John Jay away for good. 
-Brooklyn would lead by as many as 12 points in the first half before the Bloodhounds finished the half with an 4-0 run cutting the Bulldog lead to 37-29 at halftime.

-The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Bloodhounds 20-7 on the offensive boards for the game. They would outscore John Jay 21-0 on second chance points.  
-Brooklyn knocked down ten three-pointers to the Bloodhounds' two.  
-John Jay turned the ball over 18 times to the Bulldogs' 11. 

Leading the Bulldogs

-Batash scored a game-high 21 points on 7-14 shooting from the field including 4-10 from 'downtown'.
-Freshman guard Noah Shy added 15 points and grabbed six rebounds off of the bench.
-Sophomore guard Michael Tesoriero and, sophomore win Henry O'Reilly, and Konfino added 10 points a piece. 

Leading John Jay

-Essien Epps scored his 1,000th point of his career with a team-high 19 on the evening.  
-Hakeem Amanishaun finished with 12 points and nine rebounds.
