US National Tennis Center----For the second year in a row, the Brooklyn College women's tennis team is heading to the conference championship match! The top-seeded Bulldogs defeated No. 4 Baruch College, 5-0, in the CUNYAC tournament semifinals this afternoon at the US National Tennis Center. Brooklyn improves to 14-2 overall with the win while Baruch ends its Fall season with a 7-5 record. The Bulldogs will take on No. 3 Hunter College on Friday at 3:00 pm in the CUNYAC Final at the US National Tennis Center.
"Winning all three doubles matches gave us the start any team needs especially in the postseason," Brooklyn College Head Coach,
David Wallis would comment after the match. "Happy that the team is able to play for the championship for the second year in a row."
The Bulldogs steadily marched through three doubles victories. At the top flight, Brooklyn's
Ievgeniia Kostenko and
Tamila Latif-Zade defeated Baruch's Grace Graham and Lejla Redzematovic, 8-1. At No. 2 Flight doubles, Brooklyn's
Rosa Aksanov and
Georgeen Belrose defeated Baruch's Lauren Kraker and Natalie Ibelhaupt, 8-5. Rounding out Brooklyn's doubles victories at the No. 3 Flight,
Shannel Johnson and
Elizaveta Meshkalova defeated Baruch's Elizabeth Mak and Regina Avrutis.
Brooklyn would end the match early with a pair of singles wins to advance to the championship. At the No. 4 Flight,
Georgeen Belrose defeated Regina Avrutis (6-2, 6-2). Elizaveta Meshklova would also win quickly, defeating Kaitlyn Rivera (6-0, 6-1)
